A Jewish and Sikh Fusion Wedding

The Hakim Sons team was truly blessed and humbled that Courtney, a wedding industry professional with Magic Moments Parties and Events, Inc., came to us to document her wedding memories.

The wedding itself was one of the most unique we’ve ever seen! The two day fusion celebration included events consisting of Courtney’s Jewish traditions and Surjit’s Sikh heritage. The first night was definitely NOT your typical rehearsal dinner. The couple’s family and friends attended a Sangeet party and danced the night away! Day two started out with a moving Sikh wedding ceremony followed by an emotional Jewish ceremony. The newly Dr. and Mrs. Surjit Rai celebrated with an exquisite reception at the Dallas Intercontinental Hotel. A big congratulations and thank you to Courtney and Surjit! View the film on our BLOG.

A dream come true…

Thanks to some insider information, the Hakim Sons team found out that Stephanie was planning her wedding, and we just had to be a part of it! We knew Stephanie and Clint’s wedding celebrations would be special because the bride herself is a wedding coordinator with some of the best in town…DFW Events. As a child, Stephanie assisted her mom who was an award-winning Dallas videographer in her time, so the pressure was on. Of course, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Harrison loved their wedding film, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! View this film on our BLOG.

Recipe for Love
Friendship Tea

Ingredients

1/2 cup instant tea powder

1 cup sweetened lemonade powder

1 cup orange flavored drink mix (e.g. Tang)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

Directions

In a large bowl, combine instant tea, lemonade powder, orange drink mix, cinnamon and clove. Mix well and store in an airtight container.

To serve, put 2-3 teaspoons of mix in a mug. Stir in 1 cup of boiling water. Adjust to taste.

The FIRST thing Shelina told Nizar after he proposed to her is that she wanted Hakim Sons to document their wedding celebrations. Nizar agreed, of course, but came to us wanting something more. The couple envisioned their family and friends watching them enter their reception at the Omni Mandalay on a gondola. The idea was unique and romantic indeed, but we knew we could take our biggest fans’ vision to a new place.

After some intense brainstorming, concept development, and bad acting in the studio, we came up with a plan to combine a concept film and instant edit into one piece. The soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. Nayani loved it and were on board to make this film something their family and friends would never forget. Not only would everyone be able to relive the highlights of the multiple day wedding festivities, but this was the perfect way to precede the couples’ entrance into their reception which was the day after their ceremony. Jaws dropped when the guests saw this piece, and it was such a hit that we had an encore presentation later that evening!

Sarah and Ahmer called upon the Hakim Sons team to do something out of this world to surprise their family and friends during their reception. This couple was willing to do whatever it took to make this happen, so we came up with a concept which included an instant edit of their mehndi celebrations on Thursday. Jaws dropped on Saturday night during the reception, the guests still can’t stop talking about this film, and Sarah and Ahmer can’t be more thrilled. Mission accomplished! The Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of NACE ( DFWNACE ) hosted a fundraiser benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. DFW NACE (National Association of Catering Executives) members are some of the top catering and event professionals in the DFW area. This particular cause was very dear to our hearts, and we were honored to be there to capture the excitement and joy in the eyes of these kids. Today, I was reading a blog post by our dear friends at The Wedding Party Studio and I ran into this great article. I want to credit them for this but wanted to share this with our fans and friends. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

1. Rain on your wedding day is actually considered good luck, according to Hindu tradition. So if it rains, pray it pours! One can never have too much luck.

2. Middle Eastern brides paint henna on their hands and feet. This ornate art is believed to protect the bride from the evil.

3. In the US, most brides have four bridesmaids, including the maid of honor.

4. Legend says single women will dream of their future husbands if they sleep with a slice of the groom’s cake under their pillows. So single gals- ask for a slice to go!

5. Viva Las Vegas! If Elvis and neon lights are the keys to your dream wedding, don’t plan your Vegas “I Do’s” on Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Day. These two holidays are the two busiest days for weddings in Las Vegas.

6. A traditional Jewish wedding ceremony takes place under a chupah, which symbolizes that the bride and groom are creating a home together. This tradition stems from the Biblical wedding of Abraham and Sarah.

7. Hello sunshine! In Ireland, a sunny wedding day means good luck for the couple.

8. Engagement and wedding rings are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand because it was once thought that a vein in that finger led directly to the heart. Awww!

9. Why something old, something new, something barrowed, something blue? Something old is meant to represent and link the bride with her family and their past. Something new is good luck and represents success and the bride’s hopes for a bright future in her new role as a wife. The wedding gown is often chosen as the “new”. Something borrowed represents to the bride that friends and family will be there for her not only on her special day, but also in the future when help is needed. Something blue refers back to ancient times. Blue was a symbol of faithfulness, purity and loyalty.

10. The term “best man” dates back to the times when Scotsmen kidnapped their brides to be. The friend of the groom who had excelled at the abduction was given the title “best man”.

Our team was in New York last month celebrating and documenting
Rupa and Sunder’s wedding festivities! These college sweethearts met
about seven years ago, became best friends, and finally tied the knot in
a two day celebration including a traditional, South Indian ceremony
and magnificent reception. The party took place in the heart of
Manhattan at Gotham Hall.
This former bank is a true gem in the Big Apple with a classy yet
contemporary feel. Best wishes to Rupa and Sunder from the Hakim Sons Films team as they

Recipe for Love

Lemon-Garlic Chicken Kabobs

Father’s
Day is June 20. Treat your Dad to a relaxing Father’s Day. Grill him a
meal he’ll always remember.

A mouth-watering marinade of lemon juice, soy sauce,
garlic powder and corn syrup adds subtle sweetness to these grilled
chicken and vegetable skewers, transforming everyday chicken into
extraordinary fare.

Ingredients

· 1 cup vegetable oil

· 1/2 cup soy sauce

· 1/2 cup light corn syrup

· 1/4 cup lemon juice

· 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

· 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

· Garlic salt to taste

· 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves-cut into
1-1/2 inch pieces

· 1 (8 ounce) package fresh chopped mushrooms

· 2 onions, quartered

· 1 green bell pepper, cut into large chunks

Cooking
Instructions

1. In a medium bowl, blend vegetable oil, soy sauce,
light corn syrup, lemon juice, sesame seeds, garlic powder, and garlic
salt. Place chicken in the mixture. Cover, and marinate in the
refrigerator at least 2 hours.

2. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, and
lightly oil grate. Thread chicken onto skewers alternately with
mushrooms, onions, and green bell pepper. Pour marinade into a saucepan,
and bring to a boil. Cook for 5 to 10 minutes.

3. Place skewers on the prepared grill. Cook 15 to 20
minutes, turning frequently, until chicken is no longer pink and juices
run clear. Baste with the boiled marinade frequently during the last 10
minutes.

The Dallas Cowboys’ owner was inducted into the Club’s Alumni Hall of Fame during their 2010 Chairman’s Dinner. This night full of stars, planned and coordinated by Dana Carroll, was held at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium and honored the Southwest Youth of the Year in addition to raising funds for the Boys and Girls Club. The Hakim Sons team had a wonderful time documenting this exquisite and worthy event!

It was high fashion and lots of glitz and glamor at the Silk Threads fashion gala held at the Rosewood Crescent Hotel. This fabulous event featured the latest of Ruby Bhandari’s designer Indian and Pakistani ethnic wear. Ruby and her husband Raj used their fashion show as a platform to promote awareness and donate funds to the American Cancer Society. From essential to extraordinary and elegant to enchanting, Silk Threads had something to blow everyone away. South Indian Wedding… New York Style!

Our team was in New York earlier this month celebrating and documenting Rupa and Sunder’s wedding festivities. These college sweethearts met about seven years ago, became best friends, and finally tied the knot in a two day celebration including a traditional, South Indian ceremony and magnificent reception. The party took place in the heart of Manhattan at Gotham Hall. This former bank is a true gem in the Big Apple with a classy yet contemporary feel. Best wishes to Rupa and Sunder from the Hakim Sons Films team as they begin their life as husband and wife!

The Hakim Sons team had the privilege of documenting Lijy John and Mark Richards’ wedding this past weekend. The day started with a beautiful and tear jerking ceremony, which included traditional Malayalee wedding customs and continued with a stunning reception to celebrate the momentous occassion.
