9/11: A North Texas Response

Exactly 12 years ago today, life in America changed forever. The 9/11 attacks on the United States were devastating, heartbreaking and simply unbelievable. However, every dark cloud has a silver lining. That silver lining was the response of countless communities across the country that rallied together to help rebuild and strengthen the nation. One local organization has been doing their part to honor the lives lost while changing the lives of others. Every year since on 9/11, the Entrepreneurs for North Texas (EFNT) have brought together hundreds of volunteers to make a positive impact in the DFW community. Billed as a day of service, Freedom Day is the vision of EFNT and their member companies who work to transform tragedy into triumph. On the twelfth anniversary of 9/11, more than 700 volunteers will work side by side to renovate the William H. Atwell Middle School/Law Academy. At the same time, the middle school students will visit the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Our team produced a film about Freedom Day that recalls the tragedy of 9/11 while highlighting the community response led by EFNT. The film is being used as an educational tool to inform the Atwell students about the impact 9/11 had on the country and their community. Additionally, the film will serve to inspire the students to be active and make a difference in their communities. Not only was our team honored to produce the Freedom Day film, but we’re also happy to volunteer alongside 700+ businessmen and women. On this 9/11, we remember those who lost their lives, the brave first responders and also the service men and women who sprung into action on that fateful day. Today, we are doing our part to ensure that their efforts were not in vain. “For us, it is important to give back to the city and community that has given us so much.”–Shezad Manjee, Hakim Sons Films Founder  ...

Vendor of the Month: Sarah Kate Photography

Being in the wedding business, we are lucky enough to cross paths with top wedding vendors in the industry. From bakeries and live bands to floral artists and luxury car rentals, our films truly showcase the collaborative effort it takes to pull off a spectacular wedding. As such, we want to lift the veil and spotlight one vendor each month. This month we’ve chosen Sarah Kate Photography. Sarah Kate has the amazing ability to capture the beauty, romance and joy of each couple through her pictures and we have the privilege of collaborating with her on a regular basis. Our Relationship Manager Shannon chatted with Sarah Kate, owner and photographer of Sarah Kate Photography. Here’s what Sarah Kate had to say about her experience in the industry and shooting weddings in Dallas and beyond.   Shannon Jenkins: How did you get your start in the industry? Sarah Kate: I worked for a photographer all through college where I learned Photoshop and the basics of running a business. After I graduated with a public relations and marketing degree, I decided that if there ever was a time to follow my dream, I should do it and not wait!   SJ: How were you able to break into the Dallas market? SK: I moved to Dallas and worked as an assistant for another photographer for a while. This allowed me to shoot in all the best locations and meet all the great folks in the Dallas wedding industry. I started my own company about 5 years ago.   SJ: What can you tell photographers breaking into this market? SK: The best thing I ever did was to assist for other photographers. You have to pay your dues sometimes and start at the bottom. It’s like any other job. Also, shoot constantly. Shoot your friends, shoot your vacations, shoot your food! You have to know how to do it all if you want to shoot a well-rounded wedding.   SJ: What is your favorite part of your job? SK: I have a couple favorite aspects of my job. One of the fortunes that I have been granted is travel. I love to travel and photography has taken me all over the world: Africa, Costa Rica, Italy,...

Lauren + Brian | Dallas Wedding Film (Four Seasons Resort & Club)

It has been said that there is nothing like summer love. Lauren and Brian must have gotten this memo, since the two chose July as the time to express their love for each other. The romance burns brightly as this summer wedding heats things up with a couple that is truly in love. The black tie optional ceremony took place at Christ the King Catholic Church in Dallas, and guests filled the church to see Lauren & Brian tie the knot. The Garden Gate provided the floral arrangements that accented the champagne, ivory and summer green colors selected by Lauren and Brian. The bride walked down the isle in a Monique Lhuillier gown complete with a garter made from her grandmother’s wedding dress. Prior to the ceremony, Lauren and Brian exchanged notes between each other in a moment that they won’t soon forget. The reception, held at the Four Seasons Resort and Club featured catering by the hotel and the musical sounds of Ice House. DJ Marcus Rollins kept the party going as guests celebrated wit Lauren and Brian. The groom’s family was no stranger to the dance floor as the song Shout blasted through the speakers. Panini Bakery created the decadent cake that was enjoyed by the bride and groom as well as their guests. After the reception, guests chowed down on gooey grilled cheese goodness from Ruthie’s Rolling Café food truck. After a grand send-off complete with confetti, the couple rode away into the night on a festive golf cart while waving goodbye to their family and friends. Congratulations to Lauren and Brian on their nuptials, and we wish the two the very best in their new life together!  ...

Katie & Alan | Dallas Wedding Film

With more than a decade in the industry, we’ve filmed more wedding celebrations than we care to count. Having filmed Indian, Nigerian and American weddings, we can honestly say there is one thing that connects each together. That is love. Simply put, the love that is shared crosses all borders, beliefs and traditions. Filming your wedding celebration allows you to have a time capsule of that love. You can play it back each and every day and your special day all over again. In an article by Huffington Post Weddings, Maram Canawati Nassar details the importance of filming your wedding celebration. In the blog entitled “Five Must-Have Reasons to Hire a Videographer For Your Wedding,” she goes in-depth about reliving your wedding day through video. “We all know there’s a ton of questions and tedious research when planning your wedding—especially at the beginning. One of the most underrated and underused vendors is the videographer,” Nassar says. “Trust me…the results of your wedding day footage that you’re left with are priceless…and is worth every penny.” For Katie & Alan, their wedding was all about family and the love between the two of them. It was crystal clear that the couple would want a wedding film that stands the test of time. Katie and Alan’s wedding celebration was a pure joy to film and experience. From the rehearsal dinner at La Florentina and the ceremony at Christ the King Catholic Church to the reception at Arlington Hall, these newlyweds had a celebration to remember. Katie and Alan are both big on family, and as such, various members of their families stood beside the two as they exchanged their vows. In honor of her father, Katie walked down the aisle to Ave Maria, a moment that without question moved guests to tears. The regal Arlington Hall provided an upscale backdrop for their reception, and guests filled the majestic venue in Lee Park to party with the bride and groom. All in all, it was a night to remember, and thankfully for Katie and Alan they can relieve it every day with their wedding film.     There are countless reasons to hire a filmmaker to document your wedding, but we’ve included just a few to whet...

3 Ghosts

A message from Shezad Manjee, Chief Creative Officer at Hakim Sons Films: “Here at Hakim Sons Films we are proud to announce our partnership with Marcus D. Lopez on his independent film, ‘3 Ghosts.’ We are excited about this new venture and look forward to working with him to produce a full-length motion picture. With more than a decade of experience in the wedding film industry, we are eager to expand our style of filmmaking with Marcus. This has been a five year dream for Marcus, and when he first approached us about partnering on the project, he presented the most well prepared pitch we’d ever seen. I thought, ‘How could we not be a part of this project?’ For us, filmmaking is a family tradition that stems back three generations; from a grandfather who sought vision and innovation to a grandson who excels at it. Today, our company has grown into a team of dedicated and passionate cinematographers and creative artists who make it their mission to tell unique stories. Our films evoke style and sincerity to capture our client’s most precious moments. We use today’s technology and generations of experience to transform your memories into a masterpiece. We’re proud to serve as co-producer for ‘3 Ghosts’ and to provide the cameras, lenses, lighting and audio equipment necessary to complete the project. We’re leveraging our friends and fan base to create a chilling, supernatural thriller. Once the film is completed, we’ll be eager to enter the finished product in the festival circuit. In years past, films such as these required large production budgets. However with the advances in technology and filmmaking, we are now able to produce high quality works of art without needing the big, Hollywood resources to do so. Without question, the end result will be a labor of love between Marcus and our team. We encourage everyone to help see the project through by sharing the video below with your friends on Facebook & Twitter, or by donating to our Kickstarter page.”  ...

2013 Wedding Gown Trends!

This year is all about color and not just because it’s about to be spring! We were so blessed to be a part of a great event this month with the fabulous wedding designer Romona Keveza. She is a New York designer and has become an international leader in the couture bridal industry. We got the inside glance at this year’s biggest trends in wedding gowns. Illusion: Illusion necklines and sleeves are in- they give a feel of a sleeveless or strapless gown, but still provide a unique touch of sheer coverage.   Sleeves: Whether they are sheer or just full, sleeves are another big trend. We believe a lot of this inspiration has come from Kate Middleton’s wedding gown. Fiftys: We have seen the runways full of short length dresses. We love this trend because it’s perfect for any bride to walk down the aisle in, but also they can dance all night long in this type of dress! Lace: Lace has made a huge comeback since 2011, which could be mainly inspired by the Duchess of Cambridge! Regardless, whether the lace has been a small detail on top of fabrics or gowns have been made entirely from lace; it’s definitely a great detail to add volume, dimension, and class!   Color: Colored gowns have not been more bold than this one!  Romona Keveza is one designer who is not scared to go outside the box with colored wedding gowns. Whether it’s something soft like a pastel green or bold like a deep red, Romona showcases that element of originality with her designs by adding that hint of color!  We have seen celebrities, like Gwen Stefani, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway, and Reese Witherspoon take on colored gowns. Other colors that have been big on the runway include soft pinks, blues, olive greens, café, gold, and blush pinks!   Finally, in the accessory department, it looks like it is going to be full of big headpieces. We feel the twenties are having a big effect on head pieces this year. It’s a very Great Gatsby feel: Which look is your favorite? Tell us on our Facebook fan page!
